They're available in many places.
Any one of the supermarkets. Such as Park N Shop and Hyper Gourmet.
Thx for your comment. Just wondering...
Are those plain ones? For Im running a little mexican restaurant in Guangzhou and tortilla chips for making nachos are sold out all over the city. Thus been trying in Macau.
Thx for any further info
You might want to call Hyper Gourmet in find out - http://www.macaubusiness.com/index.php?id=670
One of the foods I'm missing from Chicago is real corn tortillas. I used to frequent a mexican neighborhood with a couple of tortilla factories and the aroma would waft through the air. Ah!
I went to a Mexican neighborhood in Old Taipa Village where I was served a cheap imitation of tortilla chips with my salsa. In Chicago the restaurants make their own tortilla chips from fresh (or stale) tortillas.
Is there a mexican supermercado in Macau or on Taipa? Anyone know where to get real corn tortillas?
Chanteuse,
There's no Mexican supermercado or anything like that in Macau, Taipa or wherever in the S.A.R.
Actually, there are just a couple of Mexican restaurants - as far as I know - and none of them is really good.
Regarding corn tortillas, don't think Gourmet imports them, although "Old el Paso" brand is quite popular in France, so being Gourmet a French-owned supermarket (their dealer is the Carrefour group), they could import them if they find there's a market. Anyway, this is not a good moment to import goods from Europe due to the very strong Euro. Prices have risen dramatically in supermarkets for imported goods. My beloved gazpacho has gone from 50 to 103 MOP a liter in less than a year!!!! Of course, I don't buy it anymore.
Most of the 'larger' supermarkets sell nacho chips but they are all pretty terrible. It is difficult to find plain ones and when you do, the taste is not good. The ones with flavorings are horrid. To top it off, the chips are usually crushed to pieces. Need to think of some other alternatives.
