According to the release sent by the Airport, this was done to avoid a reoccurrence of parking chaos especially during long holidays as well as ensuring “secure, safe and smooth airport operations.”

The Airport is also planing on building a new multi-storey car park building to meet future demands, in line with their long-term development plans.

With the official approval granted, the north and south car parks will introduce paid car parking with effect from April 25.

Car parking fees will be collected on an hourly basis at a rate of five patacas per hour, or monthly with a rate of 800 patacas per month.

The Airport has already appointed Jones Lang LaSalle as the management company for both car parks.

According to the release, “acts as a technique to help provide high standards of service to Macau citizens and passengers when using the airport, and to ensure the ongoing safety and smoothness of airport operations.”

During major holiday periods, the Airport noted that a large number of cars were parked at the car parks and surrounding areas, often illegally thus affecting the access of other service vehicles which needed to use airport services.

The release added that was “not only a threat to the airport’s safe operation, but also damages the image of Macau as a tourism city.”

Upon the completion of the five storey car park building, more than 1,000 parking spaces are expected to be made available.
